Aliens, UFOs, Conspiracies, and Human Mutilations

One of the weirdest and most enduring facets of the UFO phenomenon is that of the mysterious mutilations of cattle and other livestock that have turned up in UFO hotspots all over the world. The state of these corpses really runs the gamut of the odd, with carcasses variously found with parts of the body excised with surgical precision, drained completely of blood, missing vital organs, and often reported as showing little to no sign of scavenger activity, decomposition, or even flies buzzing about. Reported throughout the world, the cattle mutilation phenomenon has become a major feature upon the landscape of UFO and alien weirdness, baffling investigators for decades, and although there have been many attempts to explain it all away it remains stubbornly lodged away within the lore. Among these there are occasionally cases that prove to be even weirder than most, and which show that cattle and animals are not the only target of the spooky UFO mutilation anomaly.

While the subject of cattle mutilations in relation to UFOs is often discussed, that of human mutilations is much less so. Indeed, this subject seems to be shunned by even those in the field of ufology, where it remains firmly lodged into the far fringe, an area most investigators don’t want to delve too deeply into. Yet, these cases, while rare, stubbornly remain, and paint a rather grim picture. One such case occurred in 1979, when two hunters in the Bliss and Jerome area of Idaho were out hunting when they stumbled across the mostly nude body of a man sprawled out there in the middle of nowhere. When the hunters drew closer, they could see that the dead man was only wearing underpants, but what really caught their attention was that the man had been horribly mutilated, with his sexual organs removed, his lips cut off with surgical precision, and several organs removed with similar expert cuts.

What made it particularly odd was that although the country was rugged, with many sharp rocks and thorns, the man’s bare feet were not scuffed, scraped or scratched in any way, in fact they were in pristine condition, despite the fact that the nearest road was miles away. There were also no footprints around the corpse and no tire tracks. How had he gotten there through the rough landscape miles from the road in his bare feet without a single cut or scratch? Had someone dumped him there? How or why would they have carried him all the way out there without leaving a trace and why had they mutilated the corpse? Authorities were notified and scoured the area, but could find no clues, and it was over a week later that they found the man’s possessions, many miles away from the body and similarly in the middle of the woods. It certainly sounds very much like a classic cattle mutilation scenario, and all the more so in that the region where the body was found had experienced several UFO reports and reports of cattle mutilations at around the same time.

Another spooky case comes from a top secret alleged UFO document called “Project Grudge Report 13,” which the military denies exists, but which purportedly contains a report on the time an Air Force sergeant apparently became a human victim of the mutilation phenomenon. The case allegedly involves two men, an Air Force sergeant Jonathan P. Lovette and Major William Cunningham, who were assigned to the White Sands missile testing grounds near Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. In March of 1956, the two were out in the desert tracking down debris that had fallen during a recent rocket test. As they picked through the desolate landscape looking for fragments and pieces, they separated, and at some point Cunningham heard a loud, sharp scream from Lovette from over a dune. The Major ran to see what had happened, and found something beyond rational explanation, indeed beyond anything he could have imagined.

Upon crossing the dune, Cunningham alleged that he found Lovette being dragged across the sand by a “long, serpentine arm,” like a tendril of some sort, that was wrapped around his legs and yanking him towards a large silver disc nearby. Cunningham was too shocked to react, and as he looked on in horror that bizarre tentacle reportedly pulled the Sergeant into the bowels of the UFO, which then silently shot up into the starry sky. Throughout all of this the only sound was Lovette’s screams of panic and pain. As soon as the UFO was gone and he had regained his senses, Cunningham then ran all the way back to the jeep and frantically radioed for help. It would turn out that radar operators had picked up an anomalous signature at around the same time as the strange encounter, and a thorough search of the area found no sign of Lovette despite scouring the area for miles. It was as if he had just vanished into thin air. It would not be until three days later that his fate would become known, and push the whole thing further into the realms of the weird.

It was after three days of frantic searching that Lovette’s body would be found around 10 miles from where he had disappeared. The corpse was nude, and found to have been sitting out there in the desert for perhaps 24 to 48 hours, despite the fact he had been missing for three days. However, the strangest thing of all was that the corpse had been gruesomely mutilated in a most unusual way. Lovette’s tongue had been cleanly removed with surgical precision, his eyes had been taken out, his internal organs were missing, and both his anus and genitals had been cleanly detached from the body, all of it done with expert skill. There was also the unsettling fact that the body was missing all of its blood, with not even a single drop remaining, yet coroners would find that there was no collapse of the veins that would be expected with such a draining. How had his body come to be in such a state and what connection did it have to Cunningham’s claims of UFOs and tentacles? No one really knows, and the mysterious Project Grudge Report 13 gives no answers.

It is all a pretty wild and spectacular story that has gone on to be much discussed in ufology circles to this day, but there is little in the way of concrete verification for any of it. Another case uncovered by UFO investigator Don Ecker supposedly occurred in 1989, when Ecker was contacted by ufologist and cattle mutilation expert Wm. “Bill” Knell, of the Long Island Skywatch organization, who came with a very strange story, indeed. Knell claimed that he had been contacted by an Asst. Medical Examiner from Westchester County, New York, who was familiar with Knell’s work and needed some advice on a mysterious set of corpses that had arrived at two morgues in New York and one in Connecticut at around the same time and in the same grim condition. Knell would claim that the three mysterious corpses had been mutilated by removal of the face, genitals, eyes, parts from the stomach, the rectum, and thyroids, all in exactly in the same way and apparently on the same night. According to Ecker, these corpses coincided with a number of animal mutilations that were occurring in New York and Connecticut at the time, and the medical Examiner who had contacted knell had allegedly claimed that the incidents had been immediately concealed from the media and public. The main theory was that these mutilations had been carried out by some sort of Satanic cult, which is also often put forward as an explanation for cattle mutilations, but Ecker would disagree, saying:

The Satanic explanation was examined, and according to the reporting witness, did not hold water. After having been personally involved in an investigation of cattle mutilations as a police officer back in 1982, I was very familiar with the “cult” theory of perpetrators. The Idaho Department of Law Enforcement drags it out every time there is a new rash of mutilations. The problem is, and everyone is aware of it, that no one has yet been brought to trial, or arrested yet for these crimes. Out here in the west, people know that you are flirting with a rancher’s bullet if you are caught fooling around with the ranchers’ cattle. They are his livelihood, and he will defend it. Yet, the mutilations keep occurring, and no one is any the wiser, or are they?

Ecker became convinced that the known reports of human mutilations were far stranger than any cult activity and that they were being suppressed, and he also believed that there were far more of such reports than it seemed. He began an investigation specifically looking into this aspect of the UFO phenomenon, and was surprised to find that there tended to be a high number of unexplained disappearances in areas that were experiencing sighting waves of UFOs. Curious, he contacted John Ford, the Chairman of the Long Island UFO Network, in order to see what sort of information he had on the phenomenon. Ecker says of it:

I became even more convinced that the aspect of potential UFO hostility should be investigated. Ford relayed a numbing number of animal mutilations, human disappearances, human abductions, covert Federal involvement in areas that suffered high numbers of animal mutilations, and even armed military helicopters that chased UFOs over civilian communities. Ford, who is a officer of the Federal Court system, did investigations into the disappearances of mostly young adults over a year period, in areas of high UFO overflights, and after having several personal friends who were police officers of the local municipalities look into the situation, came to the conclusion that the facts were being suppressed. The reason given was that there was “no need to panic the public.” Although no iron clad proof can be made for direct UFO intervention, the circumstances are extremely suspect.

After this he got drawn into the rabbit hole, speaking to anyone he could on the subject and trying to track down cases. To this end, he contacted a police source who he calls “Scot” to go through databases looking for mysterious deaths that displayed similar mutilation to the ones that had turned up at those morgues, and they were both puzzled by what they found. Ecker says of this:

Scot had also been involved in the last several years with several cases of mutilations that he had been called upon to investigate, always with negative results. He was as curious about this phenomenon as I was, and since he was still an active duty police officer, he had access to the department computer, to access the NCIC system that is maintained in Washington D. C. by the FBI. After giving Scot the criteria for a search of unexplained human deaths, that involved factors of mutilation, I asked that the search go back to at least 1973, involving this area of the Northwest. Scot ( not his real name ) ran the request through the department computer. As he mentioned at the time, he had expected to get realms of reports back that we would have to wade through, to get to the reports that would be are further study. Scot ended up requesting that the inquiry be run back to 1970, and involve not only Idaho, but also Utah, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington states.

Because of the magnitude of this search, Scot stated that it would take about one week to get the results back into his department. As a side note, for anyone that is not familiar with the NCIC system, it is a national data bank for Law enforcement agencies all across the United States. It is maintained and controlled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, at FBI headquarters, in Washington D. C. On the 14th of February, Scot contacted me in person, and appeared very troubled. His exact words were that “something is really screwy, Don. I got the request back from NCIC on Monday, and there has got to be something wrong. They told me that they had NO unsolved murders at all, zero, that met that criteria. THAT ANY FURTHER REQUESTS WILL HAVE TO BE MADE BY VOICE, TELEPHONE CALL, WITH PROPER AUTHORIZATION. Somebody is sitting on something, big as Hell.” I also knew that something was as screwy as hell. After all, anybody that has had any dealing with law enforcement knows about the “Green River Killer” in Washington state. This serial killer is credited with at least 30 to 40 murders of young women, and to this date, the case is as big a mystery as ever. Many of the killings showed some types of mutilation, and if nothing else, at least some of these homicides should have shown up.

Ecker believes that there is much more to the area of human mutilations than meets the eye, that it is being covered up to prevent widespread panic. Indeed, he wondered himself whether he should pursue it any further, and whether there were sinister parties that might do him harm for looking into it. He also believes that the tendency to shun such cases within the UFO field is detrimental to finding out what is really going on. He explains of all of this:

Now I must explain that I had very mixed feelings about whether I wished to attempt to explore this subject any further, or allow sleeping dogs to lie. On the one hand, I wanted more than anything to discover just what was occurring, and on the other, I realized that this had the potential to backfire on someone that disturbed the status quo. I was familiar with reports of human abductions and mutilations that had surfaced in the last several years but yet I was not sure what I believed, or even if there was anything to believe. As a side note, I had been warned by a prominent UFOlogist, that there was a lid “screwed down tighter than you would believe in regards to human mutes.” I also was warned that in order to break through the secrecy, was going to be a long and sometimes weary job, but that if enough persistence was applied, then it was possible to get to the bottom of this facet of the UFO enigma. Do I think that this can be solved, along with the rest of the puzzle? Yes, I do, because I think that the secrecy can only be maintained for so long, and then no longer. I also believe very strongly that only if the entire UFO community works in concert will this be accomplished, and the infighting and arguments MUST CEASE for the good of us all.

Ecker believes that the human mutilation phenomenon is indicative of the possibility of some UFOs exhibiting hostility towards human beings, and that it is a subject we should take very seriously despite the tendency for the UFO field to shy away from such talk. He has said of this:

The matter of either overt or covert hostility on the part of UFOs has always been treated warily by serious researchers. On the one hand, if the enigma is hostile, then several questions must be faced. What if anything should the powers in authority tell the public? Is the government capable of handling a threat of this type? Is the public ready to face an issue as potentially terrifying as a “possible threat from somewhere else?” Other than incidents involving military involvement, have there been cases where civilians have been injured or killed during some type of UFO encounter? Is it possible that the reported cases of UFOs and their occupants abducting unwilling humans for some type of medical or genetic experimentation could be true? Now, if any of this is factual, then what ramifications do the Human Race face in light of the above?

Are aliens and the UFO phenomenon a threat? Do they have anything to do with cattle mutilations, as is claimed, and could they possibly be doing the same to human beings? If so, why would they be engaged in such macabre activities and what is the purpose of it all? Perhaps more importantly, is the government aware that this is going on and is trying to keep it all under wraps? It is all certainly a strange phenomenon orbiting out there in the far reaches of the strange that even most UFO researchers won't touch, and we are left to merely speculate and wonder. Is there anything to it? I leave that for you to decide.
